Why Study Science?

Courses in science provide students with a foundation for more specialized and advanced areas of study in a baccalaureate program. Courses for these degree areas are comprised of a variety of disciplines including, biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, science and mathematics. Upon completing the program, students will be prepared for transfer to a four-year institution where they can further their education in areas such as education, ecology, physics, chemistry, engineering, scientific or technical writing, health professions, or related areas.

Degrees offered:

Students interested in science often pursue the following degree programs:

Associate of Arts (AA):

Liberal Arts and Science: Mathematics and Science

The AA degree is recommended for students whose transfer plans require math and/or science, but who will be working toward other majors.

Associate of Science (AS):

Engineering Science

Environmental Science

Liberal Arts and Science: Mathematics and Science

  • Biology Track
  • Chemistry Track
  • Honors Track

The AS degree is recommended for students who plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree in science, engineering or mathematics.

Meet our faculty

Many of our science faculty have done field-based and lab-based research and are able to bring these unique experiences to our students. Our distinguished faculty of over 100 full-time and 400 part-time members includes numerous Fulbright Scholars, SUNY Chancellor’s Award winners and published authors.
