CAD Drafter/3D Modeler Program

Career Skills Academy

Program Overview

Learn computer-assisted architectural drawing and 3D printing fundamentals to earn a certificate in less than 3 months. Drafters can find rewarding careers in the construction, manufacturing or architecture industries.

An introduction to two-dimensional computer drafting using the AutoCAD software. The course covers the basic drawing and editing commands and serves as a prerequisite for more advanced CAD courses. Topics covered include drawing setup, prototype drawings, 2D drawing and editing commands, layers, scale, units, and text, model and paper space. Also included are multiple viewport creation and manipulation, dimensioning and dimension variables and blocks and their use as library parts.

Students also will learn architectural design with building construction fundamentals. Topics include hand drawing, green building concepts, efficient use of space, simple 3D design and model construction, 3D-design software, data collection and analysis and the Scientific Method. Using their creative process students will construct a model building incorporating green-building concepts while keeping the artistic nature of architecture in mind. This course will help students who are interested in any field that relates to the building industry or real estate, animation, gaming and engineering

The students will introduce to 3D solid modeling utilizing SolidWorks® software. This course familiarizes the student with 3D solid modeling and editing techniques. Topics include: solid primitives, mass properties, 3D viewing, extrusions, 2D view extractions and assemblies.
