Janco Got Her Start in Medicine at RCC

Most people try to avoid putting others to sleep, even anesthesiologist Jana Janco ’01, MD, a specialist in regional anesthesia such as epidurals and nerve blocks.  Dr. Janco, formerly of West Nyack, always knew she wanted to become a doctor.

After her junior year at Albertus Magnus High School, seeking additional challenge, she started college as an Early Admit student in RCC’s Honors Program. A 2001 SUNY Chancellors Award Winner and Beacon Scholar, she thrived in the challenging Honors Program under the guidance of her mentor, George Krasilovsky, PhD, Professor of Science. “Dr. Krasilovsky took a personal interest in my future, always challenging me to reach my goals. Personal attention from my professors was a critical ingredient in the recipe for my success.”

She is also grateful for the English composition training she received from Professors Nancy Hazelton, PhD, and Reamy Jansen. “The foundation my RCC professors gave me was critical to my future. RCC holds a place near and dear to my heart. I attribute all my success to the great start I had there.”

After earning her BA in Biology from Columbia University, she attended St. George’s University School of Medicine, and completed her internship in internal medicine at Westchester Medical Center and her residency in anesthesia at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Dr. Janco currently works at Vassar Brothers Medical Center with North American Partners in Anesthesia.

Dr. Janco is studying toward an Executive MBA through Washington State University’s online program. She met her husband, pediatrician Michael Kirpan, MD, at medical school. They live with their son in Dutchess County, NY.
