August 2017 Achievements


Kris Baker, PhD, Associate Professor of Biology, and Eric Magaram, Assistant Professor of Mathematics, were both invited to join the Carnegie National Faculty. This group, currently consisting of just 23 people, serves as an advisory council to the Carnegie Foundation for its Math Pathways program for developmental math. Baker and Magaram were honored for their efforts to bring Math Pathways to RCC and their support in expanding the program within SUNY.


Shamika Mitchell, PhD, Assistant Professor of English, served as a panelist at the Blerd City Conference July 29 in Brooklyn, NY. The Women in Comics panel focused on gender and inclusion in the comic book industry.

Katherine Lynch, PhD, Assistant Professor of English, and Stephen Burke, Instructor and Chair of English, presented RCC’s ALP (Accelerated Learning Plan) model to the faculty, counselors and advisors at Adirondack Community College, August 1 in Queensbury, NY.


Eileen MacAvery Kane, Instructor of Art, is showing her work at Paws, Claws, Hooves and Fins: Animals in Art, a juried exhibition with the Goshen Art League in the Goshen Music Hall, July-September in Goshen, NY.


Suzanne Cleary-Langley, PhD, Professor of English, recently received a book contract for her fourth book of poetry. The publisher is BkMk Press (University of Missouri-Kansas City).

Karen Sunshine, PhD, Resident Professor of Political Science, had the tenth edition of her textbook, American Government and Politics in the New Millennium, released in both printed and electronic formats.
