February 2016 Achievements


David Lucander, PhD, Professor of Multicultural Studies, was honored as one of four first-time recipients of the Griot Award by the African American Historical Society of Rockland County at its 10th anniversary celebration on January 31. "Griot" is a West African term meaning storyteller or one who transmits the history of the people from generation to generation.


Art adjunct faculty Lili Grady, Andrea Gellar-Jablonski and Collette Fournier exhibited at the Annual Members’ Exhibition at the Edward Hopper House Art Center in Nyack January and February 2016.


Marie Morreale, OTR/L, CHT, Adjunct Faculty, OTA, published her 4th textbook titled, The Occupational Therapist's Workbook for Ensuring Clinical Competence. Coauthor of this text is Debbie Amini, Director of Professional Development for the American Occupational Therapy Association. Publisher is Slack Incorporated.


Katie Lynch, PhD, Instructor of English, read excerpts from her novel, Confucius Jane, on January 11 on the “Popular Topics Stage” at the American Library Association’s Midwinter Meeting in Boston.

Kaoru Miyauchi, Adjunct, Performing Arts, performed her 12th recital at Carnegie Hall on Sunday February 21 as part of the competitive concert series sponsored by Alexander and Buono International.

Angelo Parra, Adjunct, Performing Arts/English announces additional engagements for his play, "The Devil's Music: The Life and Blues of Bessie Smith," for a run from February 28 to March 26 at Arts Garage, 180 NE First St., in Delray Beach.


Susan Deer, PhD, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs & Student Services, will moderate a panel discussion, “Managing Your Career Portfolio ... Get Out in Front of the Competition!” on March 4 at Concordia College in Bronxville, NY. The event is sponsored by the American Council on Education (ACE) Women's Network.
