January 2015 Achievements


Mara-Lee Bierman, Professor of Spanish, has been nominated by the Metropolitan Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese as the 2015 recipient for the Ruth Bennett Award for Outstanding Contributions to Hispanic Studies.

David Lucander, PhD, Assistant Professor of Pluralism and Diversity, was profiled in an article, “Community College Professor Finds Success by Digging a Little Deeper,” in Diversity Issues in Higher Education magazine. He also recently presented the keynote address for the African American Historical Society of Rockland County, discussing his new book, Winning the War for Democracy.

Rabbi Dov Oliver, adjunct faculty and Director of the Center for Jewish Life/Hillel, and Andrea Winograd, Director of the Holocaust Museum & Study Center, were honored at the Town of Ramapo's annual Jewish Heritage Night celebration.


Pam Floyd, Professor of English, presented “ ‘Ever Paler Twilight’: the Attenuation of Certainty in William Trevor’s ‘Of the Cloth’" at the New England Regional Conference of the American Conference for Irish Studies (ACIS) November 21-22, 2014, at Wheaton College in Norton, MA.

Sherrill Wilson, PhD, adjunct faculty for Pluralism & Diversity, presented the keynote speech, “Celebrating Freedom,” at a Kwanzaa event at the Rochester Museum of Art in Rochester, NY, on December 30, 2014.


Eugenio Espinosa, Professor of Art, and Eileen MacAvery Kane, adjunct faculty, Art, are exhibiting at the Annual Members’ Exhibition at the Edward Hopper House Art Center, Nyack, NY, Jan–Feb 2015. Kane is also exhibiting at the Orange County Arts Council Members’ Exhibition at Orange Community College, Middletown, NY, Jan–Feb 2015.

Collette Fournier, Campus Photographer/Communications Assistant, is exhibiting photography works in “Advancing the Frame,” the first joint exhibition of art photography groups Kamoinge Inc. and EnFoco, Inc., at the Nathan Cummings Foundation in NYC through March 26.


Suzanne Cleary, PhD, Professor of English, recently had two poems accepted for publication by Sewanee Review.

Christina Stern, PhD, Assistant Professor, History, wrote "Enlightenment Ideals in Our Present? In Our Future?" an article that was published in the December 2014 issue of the history journal Clio's Psyche: Understanding the "Why" of Culture, Current Events, History, and Society.


Christopher Thiesing, adjunct faculty and business advisor, Small Business Development Center, was elected to the Board of Directors at the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum (CFFC&M), for which he is media director. Additionally, about 100 of his photos will be included in a forthcoming book, Fly Fishing Finesse, by John L. Field, due out in March. Thiesing is also presenting a photo display, “Catskill Rivers,” at the CFFC&M in the spring.


Brian Cocolicchio, temporary, full-time, Science, completed his MS in Applied Statistics at The Rochester Institute of Technology in December 2014.

Abraham Matthew, full-time Systems Administrator for Information Technology, successfully completed his MS degree in Information Technology Management at Columbia University in December 2014.
